The digital photography phenomenon is still going strong, and any keen amateur photographer can easily turn his or her best work into unique gifts for family and friends. Online and storefront photo retailers offer quick and easy ways to put favorite pix in new places (moving beyond the photo-on-mug/mousepad standard fare) and there are plenty of other do-it-yourself options if you have a little more time and resources.

Photo candle votives. Print your pictures onto translucent vellum or regular paper, and cut them to fit and wrap around a glass votive candle holder. Gift suggestions: a series of photo votives with one of each grandchild; a four seasons series with fall, winter, spring and summer photo scenes; a black and white or sepia tone series of old family photos; happy couple moments on pink and red votive holders. And don't forget to include candles with the photo votive gifts!

Play "Memory" with your memories. Remember that card game, where the goal is to find matching pairs of pictures? (Players take turns flipping two cards at a time to see if they can find a match. The one with the most pairs at the end wins.) You can create a customized version of this game by printing wallet-sized images of your own photos, 2 of each photo, for a total of 24 or 52. Photos can be assorted, thematic (e.g. all from a particular vacation, all of one person) or created especially for the gift recipient (consider snapping photos of all their favorite things, for instance - food, hobbies, locations, etc.).

Make your loved one a star. If you're adept with Photoshop or other photo-editing software, you can create a fake magazine cover starring a friend, family member or pet! Study the covers of the magazine you want to approximate, paying close attention to the title font and where they usually place the article headlines. Use a high resolution, portrait orientation photo, and use the text features of the software to place title and headlines on top of the photo. Don't forget the barcode and pricing information for maximum realism, and personalize the article headlines for your gift recipient.
